Women of Troy Upset No. 5 Ranked UCLA In Westwood

The No. 32 ranked USC women's tennis team upset No. 5 ranked UCLA on Friday (March 1) in Westwood, Calif. The match, broadcast on the Pac-12 Network, was a non-conference match. The Women of Troy now hold a 6-2 record for the 2019 season.
The Bruins started off the match with a win as the No. 14 ranked duo of Bolton/Hart beat USC's Weissmann/Willson 6-3 on court two. The Trojans responded with a win of their own on court three as Trojan tandem Branstine/Jaeger defeated No. 38 ranked Altick/Miller. On court one, USC's Kulikov/Valdes upset UCLA's No. 8 ranked Andrews/Broomfield 6-4 to win the doubles point!
After losing the doubles point, UCLA reentered the match as Bruin Jada Hart defeated USC's No. 34 Salma Ewing 6-0, 6-2 on court one to tie up the overall score at 1-1. On court five, No. 120 ranked Becca Weissmann beat UCLA's Alaina Miller 6-0, 6-4.
USC's Rianna Valdes held strong on court three as she defeated Bruin No. 112 ranked Ayan Broomfield 6-3, 6-3. USC's Angela Kulikov would have the final word of the afternoon for the Trojans as she upset No. 11 ranked Elysia Bolton 6-3, 7-5 on court two to clinch for the Women of Troy.
USC will return home to Marks Stadium to prepare for a doubleheader on Sunday (March 3). The Trojans will face Saint Mary's at 10 a.m. and Hawai'i at 2 p.m.
