USC Falls to South Carolina in NCAA Round of 16

The morning began with doubles as No. 3 Martins/Horvit defeated the Trojan No. 1 ranked pair of Kulikov/Valdes 6-1 on court one to mark the pair's third dual match loss of the season.
On court two, USC's Weissmann/Willson took a 4-1 lead over the Gamecocks pair of No. 39 Davies/Rohrabacher. South Carolina battled back to tie up the score at 4-4. The Trojans won the next game, but the Gamecocks would win the next three to mark a final score of 7-5 to take the doubles point.
In singles, USC's Becca Weissmann fell to South Carolina's Rachel Rohrabacher 6-1, 6-1 on court six. Gamecock No. 81 Mia Horvit defeated USC's Ana Neffa 6-4, 6-3 on court three to give South Carolina a score of 3-0 overall.
Finally, USC's #51 Salma Ewing lost to No. 4 Ingrid Gamarra Martins 6-2, 6-1 as South Carolina clinched the match and defeated USC to move on to the Round of Eight in Orlando, Fla.
The Trojans now look forward to NCAA Individuals in Orlando, Fla. at the USTA National Campus from May 20-25. Freshman Salma Ewing will participate in the Singles Tournament, while the pair of Kulikov/Valdes enter the Doubles Tournament as the No. 1 seed.
