USC Women's Rowing Travels North For Pac-12 Championships
May 16, 2019 | Women's Rowing, Features
The No. 13 ranked USC women's rowing team will travel north this weekend to Gold River, Calif. where the Women of Troy will compete in the Pac-12 Championships on Sunday (May 19) at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center at Lake Natoma.Â
Â
The Women of Troy must bring their A-game as they are set to race against a challenging group of teams. Five of the seven Pac-12 crews are ranked in the CRCA/US Rowing Coaches Top 20 Poll. Washington tops the poll at No. 1 with the reigning national champion, Cal, directly behind them at No. 2. Stanford holds the No. 3 position, while USC is at No. 13. Oregon State wraps up the nationally ranked Pac-12 crews at No. 19.Â
Â
The women's regatta will begin at 9:15 a.m. PT with the Novice race and the Third Varsity Eight Race at 9:45 a.m. PT. The Trojans will not be entering a boat in either of these races. USC will first hit the water at 10:15 a.m. PT for the Varsity Four race followed by the Second Varsity Eight at 10: 45 a.m. PT. The Varsity Eight will close out the morning of competition at 11:15 a.m. PT.
Â
The Pac-12 champion shall be determined by a point system. Placement in each race has a pre-determined number of points that will be awarded to the respective finisher. For the full point system, see the chart below.
Â
Should there be a tie, the finish in the women's varsity eight will be utilized as a tiebreaker.
Â
Last year, the Women of Troy placed fourth at the Pac-12 Championships. The Varsity Eight and Second Varsity Eight each placed fourth, the Varsity Four took seventh and the Third Varsity Eight took sixth. Washington won the regatta for the second year in a row by winning all four races.Â
Â
TV coverage of the event will air in two 30-minute shows debuting on Wednesday, May 22 at 7 p.m. PT on the Pac-12 Network. The men's races will air first, followed by the women's races.Â
Â
Live results of Sunday's regatta can be found at the Pac-12's rowing championship website.
