No. 4 USC Rallies To Second-Place Finish At Northrop Grumman

Juniors Gabriela Ruffels (67) and Amelia Garvey (68) posted season-best rounds to lead No. 4 USC's charge up the leaderboard Tuesday (Feb. 11) that ended with a season-best-tying second-place finish at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge at Palos Verdes G.C.
The Trojans fired a final-round-best 6-under 278 to finish at 2-over 854 (296-280-278), behind only first-place Duke, which won at 5-under 847. USC's round is its best ever at the Palos Verdes course.
"This group should be really proud of themselves for the way they battled back after a very tough first round," USC Head Coach Justin Silverstein said. "It was great to get back out and compete after a couple months off and we're excited to try and get our first win of the year in Las Vegas next week."
Garvey tied for fifth at 3-under 210 (69-73-68), matching her career-best finish for a 54-hole event while securing her first round under 70 this season. Her 68, which featured a 4-under back 9, was one off of her USC career best.
Ruffels tied for 12th at par 213 (75-71-67), also a season-best finish and her final round was also one off of her career best at USC. She had six birdies in the final round against just one bogey for her first round in the 60s this season.
Junior Alyaa Abdulghany tied for 21st at 4-over 217 (76-69-72) while senior Allisen Corpuz tied for 25th at 5-over 218 (76-69-73).
Abdulghany sank a pair of birdies today as well as an eagle on the par 5 16th hole as she posted her fourth top 29 result in as many starts this season. Corpuz had two birdies in her final round and has not finished outside the top 25 this year in five starts.
Sophomore Malia Nam moved up into a tie for 29th at 7-over 220 (78-71-71) with her second straight par round and giving USC five starters inside the top 30 for the first time this season.
Senior Aiko Leong, playing individually, tied for 71st at 17-over 730 (81-74-75).
