USC Women's Tennis Victorious In Both Matches of Friday Doubleheader

SAN DIEGO--The USC women's tennis team went 2-0 in their second doubleheader of the season today (Feb. 21) in San Diego, Calif. They defeated Hawaii 4-1 and San Diego State 4-3, and are now 6-2 on the season.
In their morning match against Hawaii, the Trojans swiftly defeated the Rainbow Wahine in doubles as the pair of Con. Branstine/Saca beat Markovic/Takamura 6-4 on court two and the duo of Jaeger/Willson beat the Wahine pair of Ehn/Pits 6-4 to claim the doubles point. USC led the match 1-0.
In singles, the Trojans struck first as senior captain No. 25 ranked Angela Kulikov extended her undefeated winning streak by defeating Hawaii's Satsuki Takamura 6-0, 6-2 on court one to push USC ahead 2-0.
The Rainbow Wahine responded with a win of their own as Nikola Dolakova beat USC senior Constance Branstine 6-1, 6-4 on court five. The Trojans notched another point on the board as sophomore Danielle Willson defeated Hawaiii's Bojana Markovic 6-2, 6-3 on court three.
Trojan sophomore Estella Jaeger would close out the match with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Hawaii's Madison Kim to clinch the match 4-1 for USC. This was Jaeger's first clinch of the 2020 season.
In USC's second match of the day, the Trojans faced off against the San Diego State Aztecs.
In doubles, the Aztecs made the first move as Arnold/Jordan defeated USC's Con. Branstine/Saca 6-1 on court two. The Trojans responded with a win from court one as the duo of Cayetano/Kulikov beat SDSU's Melosch/Smith 6-4. This win extended the duo's winning streak to an undefeated 6-0, all from the No.1 position.
San Diego State put the final mark on the board in doubles as Mulbarger/Nadozie defeated USC's Jaeger/Willson 6-4 to claim the doubles point, and USC trailed 0-1.
In singles, SDSU continued to forge ahead as Cécile Morin beat USC's Constance Branstine 6-4, 6-3 on court five. The Trojans didn't let up as Willson notched another point for the Trojans with her 6-2, 6-2 victory over Alicia Melosch on court three.
Kulikov came out hot to collect her second win of the day from court one. She defeated Nnena Nadozie 6-1, 6-3, and once again, extended her undefeated winning streak to 7-0, all from the No. 1 position. USC senior Sydney Van Alphen made her mark on the match with a victory from court four by defeating SDSU's Julia Jordan 6-2, 5-7, 6-1 to even out the score at 2-2.
SDSU responded with a win from court two as Tamara Arnold beat USC's Eryn Cayetano 6-7 (3), 6-4, 6-1. This was Cayetano's first singles loss of the dual match season.
The match fell upon court six and Estella Jaeger didn't let up and clinched the match for Troy once again by beating Agustine Rimoldi Godoy 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
Tomorrow (Feb. 22) the Women of Troy will take on San Diego at the Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center at 1:30 p.m. PST.
