USC Women's Tennis Falls to San Diego 4-1

SAN DIEGO--The USC women's tennis team suffered their third loss of the season as they fell to San Diego 4-1 at the Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif. The Women of Troy are now 6-3 on the season.
The match began with doubles, and the Trojan pair of Con. Branstine/Saca lost to San Diego's Colling/Francati 6-0 on court one. Over on court two, the USC duo of Jaeger/Willson fell to the Torreo tandem of Garcia/Tyrina 6-1. San Diego claimed the doubles point, and USC entered singles at a 0-1 deficit.
San Diego continued to roll their momentum from doubles into singles as Maria Tyrina defeated USC senior Constance Branstine 6-2, 7-6(4) on court four to push the Torreos ahead 2-0.
Trojan freshman Eryn Cayetano beat No. 59 ranked Solymar Colling 6-3, 6-4 on court one to notch a point on the board for USC.
San Diego's Gemma Garcia beat USC senior Sydney Van Alphen 6-3, 6-3 on court three, and Torreo No. 124 Elizabeth Goldsmith defeated USC sophomore Daniele Willson 6-2, 7-6 (2) on court two to clinch the match for San Diego.
USC now turns it's attention to two matches back at home at Marks Stadium in Los Angeles. The Women of Troy will take on crosstown rival UCLA in a non-conference match on Friday (Feb. 28) at 1:30 p.m. PST and then on Saturday (Feb. 29) the team will face Loyola Marymount at 12 p.m. PST.
