Freshman Yuxin Lin is tied for first after 5-under 67.
Co-leader freshman Yuxin fired a 5-under 67 while junior Issei Tanabe and sophomore Cameron Henry joined him in the top 10, the trio leading the USC men's golf team to the first-round lead at the Southern Highlands Collegiate on Sunday (March 1) at the Southern Highlands G.C. in Las Vegas.
USC combined for a 1-under 287, five better than second-place Texas and six ahead of third-place UCLA. Three more teams were tied for fourth, eight back.
Lin opened his tournament with a bogey on 10 and was lights out from there, finishing his round at 6-under and just missing an eagle on his closing hole at 9. His 67 was one off his season-best and his sixth round in the 60s this season.
Tanabe carded his second sub-par round of the spring with a 1-under 71 and is tied for fourth. He had one birdie on the day.
Henry registered his best round since Sept. 30, his round of par 72 good for a tie for 10th. He had three birdies today.
Junior Kaito Onishi is tied for 40th at 5-over 77 while junior Leon D'Souza is tied for 70th at 7-over. Freshman Tyler Guo, playing as an individual, is tied for 80th at 11-over 83.
