USC Men's Volleyball Posts Non-Conference Win Over Saint Francis

Billy Fauntleroy had a match-high 13 kills while hitting .476 to help the USC men's volleyball team defeat Saint Francis, 25-18, 25-18, 20-25, 25-18, in a non-conference match on Thursday (March 5) in USC's Galen Center.
USC improved to 4-13 overall, while Saint Francis fell to 5-12. It was the first-ever meeting between the teams. The Red Flash, out of Loretto, Penn., compete in the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association.
Fauntleroy added 5 digs and 2 aces for the Trojans. Brandon Browning had 9 kills, Adam Flood had 7 kills and Cole Paxson had a match-best 9 digs.
For Saint Francis, Michael Fisher had 11 kills and Blake Liprando had 9 kills and 7 digs.
USC hit .330 in the match to Saint Francis' .140. The teams each served 6 aces, but they combined for 47 serving errors.
USC jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the first set and Saint Francis could not come back as the Trojans hit .345 and had 2.5 blocks in the set. The Trojans trailed 11-8 in the second set before going on a 9-point run (with 8 of those points coming when Jameson McKibbin was serving) to build a 17-11 edge, a lead they didn't surrender. Saint Francis slowly moved out to a 10-5 lead in the third set and extended it to 20-14 before USC made a charge to within 21-19 only to have the Red Flash score 4 of the set's final 5 points while hitting .545. USC had a 12-7 lead in the fourth set before Saint Francis scored 4 straight points to pull within 12-11 and then tied it at 17-17, but USC tallied the next 6 points (with McKibbin serving on 5 of them) to restore order while hitting .571 in the set.
USC now hosts another non-conference team when Lindenwood of the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association visits the Galen Center on Saturday (March 7) at 7 p.m.
