Another Top 10 Finish For Onishi At The Goodwin
March 27, 2021 | Men's Golf
Senior ties for fourth, USC ties for 13th overall.
Senior Kaito Onishi capped one of his best tournaments as a Trojan with a final-round 66 to highlight USC's final day at The Goodwin on Saturday (March 27) at the Stanford G.C.
Â
The Trojans finished tied for 13th at a combined 24-over 864 (287-291-286). Arizona State took over first at 15-under with Stanford second at 7-under, the only two teams under par in the 28-team event.
Â
Onishi pocketed his fifth straight round in the 60s with a 66 today and finished at 7-under 203 (68-69-66), tied for fourth. He opened his round with an eagle on 1 and a birdie on 6 enabled him to turn at 3-under. A bogey on 13 was his only blemish as he closed with birdies on 15 and 17.
Â
"He was terrific this week," USC Coach J.T. Higgins said. "He was in control of his golf ball and hit some amazing shots. His putting has improved all semester and he was able to roll some in today. He got off to a great start and unlike last two days, really finished it off well."
Â
Onishi, who lowered his season stroke average to 71.6, has posted two top 10s in a row and has five top 20s in six starts. Today's finish was his best since a tie for third in the fall of 2019.
Â
Freshman Shane Ffrench tied for 28th at 2-over 212 (70-70-72). He had two birdies during an even front nine.
Â
Junior Cameron Henry (73-76-77) and freshman Danny Tiscareno (76-76-74), in his Trojan debut tournament, tied for 118th at 16-over 226. Tiscareno turned in counting rounds each day. Freshman Krando Nishiba tied for 134th at 21-over 231 (79-78-74).
