March 13, 2022 | Women's Golf
Senior birdies final three holes for a par round, sophomore Morard in at 1-over.
Senior Katherine Muzi birdied her final three holes to get to even while sophomore Michaela Morard carded a 1-over round to lead the No. 6 USC women's golf team on the first day of the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge on Sunday (March 13) at the Palos Verdes G.C.
USC, winners of its last two tournaments, combined for an 11-over 295, good for eighth in a strong 16-team field. Kent State owns the first-round lead at 2-over with Oregon and Virginia tied at 3-over. The Trojans are seeking their fifth overall title at this event.
Muzi, after a double bogey on 9, turned at 3-over, which is where she stood through 15 holes before she sunk birdies on 16, 17 and 18. Muzi, tied for 11th and four back, now has a team-high tying 12th round of par or better this season.
Morard, currently working on a streak in which she's improved in each of the past four tournaments, led the Trojans today at 1-over 72 and is tied for 16th. She was 2-over going out and was 1-under coming in with four back 9 birdies.
Sophomore Brianna Navarrosa and freshman Amari Avery are tied for 43rd at 5-over 76 while freshman Xin (Cindy) Kou is tied for 65th at 7-over 78.
Avery, like the Trojans, is working on a two-event win streak but has her work cut out for her to keep the streak alive.
The tournament continues Monday and Tuesday.
