No. 21 Women of Troy Fall to Utah 4-2 On The Road

The No. 21 USC women's tennis team lost 4-2 to Pac-12 rival Utah on Friday (March 4) in Salt Lake City. With the loss, the Trojans are 6-7 on the 2022 season and 0-1 in Pac-12 play.
After a weather delay that ultimately led to the match being moved indoors, the Utes took the doubles point and carried the momentum into singles play. Doubles began with Trojans Cayetano/Piper defeating Utah's Huang/Tattini 6-2 on court one. The Utes followed it up with a pair of 6-3 decisions, coming from wins on court three and two to claim the doubles point. Court three saw Utah's Hung/Lamoreaux beat USC's Willson/Morra, while Trojans Han/G. Lee fell to Utes Dush/Goncharova on court two.
The Trojans entered singles at a 0-1 deficit, but USC redshirt sophomore No. 56 Snow Han rose to the occasion, beating Utah's Lindsay Hung to give the Trojans their first point of the day after a 6-2, 6-1 victory at three singles.
Shortly thereafter, USC's No. 103 Danielle Willson fell to Ute Anya Lamoreaux 6-3, 6-3 on court six. Utah held a 2-1 lead.
Trojan Grace Piper stepped up to the plate on court four, taking down Utah's Anastasia Goncharova in a 6-1, 7-5 decision to tie it up at 2-2.
On court one, Utah's Linda Huang put the Utes back on top, taking down No. 5 Eryn Cayetano 7-6(7), 6-1.
Utah clenched the match on court five as Madison Tattino defeated USC's Sloane Morra 7-5, 6-4.
With the match clenched, play on court two was suspended with USC's No. 36 Salma Ewing up 3-6, 6-4, 4-2 over Utah's Emily Dush.
The Women of Troy, who have now lost six consecutive matches, will look for a road win against Colorado on Sunday at 9 a.m. PT.
