The Women of Troy were led by a 10-kill performance from OH Skylar Fields

STANFORD, Calif. – The USC women's volleyball team (11-6, 5-2 Pac-12) fell to third-ranked Stanford (14-2, 7-0) in three sets (25-22, 25-14, 25-14) at Maples Pavilion on Friday, Oct. 13.

KEY PLAYERS

Sr. OH Skylar Fields led USC with 10 kills and had seven digs, and two blocks; her 46th time in double-digit kills as a Trojan.
Jr. S Mia Tuaniga put up 20 assists with five digs and added two kills.
So. MB Tyrah Ariail scored five kills and had two blocks (one solo) and two digs.
So. LIB Gala Trubint had six digs and one assist.
For the Cardinal, Kendall Kipp and Catie Baird shared match-high honors with 12 kills apiece. Elia Rubin had the double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs to go with three blocks. Kami Miner put up 35 assists with 14 digs and added four kills.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Stanford out-hit USC, .402 to .112, in the match and had a 47-28 edge in kills. The Cardinal also had more digs (46-30), service aces (5-1), and blocks (5-3).
The Trojans led by as many as four and had a 19-16 lead over Stanford in the opening set. Fields racked up seven of her kills in the opener and helped USC hit .282, but Stanford did enough down the stretch to take a 25-22 win. Kipp had four kills and Baird had all four of her kills during the Cardinal's late run.
Stanford opened the second set with 10 straight points and finished with an 11-point win, 25-14. The Cardinal had 12 kills and hit .375 and held the Trojans to a .000 hitting percentage with seven kills on 26 swings. Fields added two more kills and the Women of Troy had two blocks, but Stanford scored three aces with two blocks of its own.
The third set was tied seven times and the Trojans had a lead early on, but Stanford completed the sweep with another 25-14 result. The Cardinal hit .562 in the third and collected 19 kills (1e) on 32 swings while USC had another .000 set with six kills on 33 attacks. Stanford did almost all of its damage from the attack and kept the Trojans at bay with 18 digs.

UP NEXT

USC heads to the East Bay for a 2 p.m. PT Sunday-matinee (Oct. 15) meeting against California (12-6, 1-6) at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley, Calif. The match will be shown live on the Pac-12 Networks and is another reunion as the Trojans face Golden Bears assistant coach Savannah Rennie who served as a volunteer assistant coach at USC in 2022.

MATCH NOTES

USC fell to 26-71-1 all-time against Stanford and has lost 12 in a row to the Cardinal. The Trojans go to 7-41 on The Farm.
The Trojans were swept for only the second time this season (Aug. 26 at No. 23 Rice).
USC goes to 1-4 against AVCA ranked opponents.
The Women of Troy fall to 3-6 in nine road matches this season.
