USC Women’s Rowing Sweeps UCLA As Trojans Open 2023 Action

LOS ANGELES – The USC women's rowing squad kicked off 2023 action with a 7-0 win over crosstown rival UCLA on Saturday, March 11. The Women of Troy won the Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight, Varsity Four and Third Varsity Eight to beat the Bruins.

TROJAN BOATS

Sr. Eden Cooper-Squires coxed for the Trojan's Varsity Eight Boat. Zoe McCutcheon sat the stroke seat for the Trojans. Succeeding the stroke seat was Celia Marino, Grete Alttoa, Annabel Aron, Jenna Van de Grift, Sara Clarin, Clare Widzgowski, and Raquel Rodriguez.
Gr. Olivia Lau coxed for the Second Varsity Eight. In the stroke seat was Chiara Meakin. Following Meakin was Claudia Cabula, Julia Karten, Anna Molnar, Caroline Munch, Ingrid Brast, Jemima Morgan, and in the bow was Sonja Washburn.
Fr. Dana Shearer sat in the coxswain seat for the Varsity Four. The Trojans stroke seat was occupied by Grace Eamer. Then was Zuzanka Pazourkova, Anastasiia Slivina and in the bow was Alex DeLisle.
So. Dilan Johnson coxed for the Second Varsity Four. In the stroke seat was Sarah Panek. Following Panek was Monica Kwan, Sam Boucher, and in the bow was Sophia Chen.
Fr. Sage Saperstein sat in the coxswain seat for the Third Varsity Eight. The Trojans stroke seat was occupied byLindsay Neithammer. Then was Isabella Lysaker, Evita Franckevica, Jane Cox, Fiona Batstone, Rhese Abrams Gretchen Angelich, and in the bow was Franchesca Moore.

WHAT HAPPENED

The Second Varisty Four was first on the water for the Trojans. Coxswain Dilan Johnson led the Women of Troy to second place with a time of 8:19.05. The Trojan boat was about 16 seconds slower than the UCLA boat (8:03.3).
The Third Varsity Eight was second on the water for the Women of Troy. Coxswain Sage Saperstein led USC to a first place finish in 6:59.6. UCLA was second in 7:05.6.
The Varsity Four was the third race for the Trojans. Coxswain Dana Shearer guided the Trojans to first place with a time of 07:38.7. The Women of Troy were nearly seven seconds ahead of UCLA's boat that finished in 7:45.
The Second Varsity Eight was the fourth race for the Trojans. Coxswain Lillian Lau guided the Trojans to first with a time of 6:49.89. The Bruins were 12 seconds behind in 7:02.99.
Last to compete was The Varsity Eight. As Eden Cooper-Squires coxed, the Women of Troy crossed the finish line first with a time of 6:36.9. UCLA was second with a time of 6:41.71.

USC travels next to San Diego on April 1 to compete in the two-day San Diego Crew Classic.
