USC Rowing Set to Race in San Diego Crew Classic
March 29, 2023 | Women's Rowing
LOS ANGELES – The USC women's rowing team travels to San Diego this weekend (April 1-2) to compete in the 50th annual San Diego Crew Classic regatta.
This regatta, raced on the waters of Mission Bay, has historically been a strong event for the Women of Troy. The Trojans competed in the San Diego Crew Classic in 2022. When the Trojans raced in this regatta in 2017, the varsity four took home the Karen Plumleigh Cortney Cup after winning the Grand Final in the Women's Collegiate Varsity 4+ race.
From 2011-15, USC's varsity eight won five-straight Grand Finals, receiving the prestigious Jessop-Whittier Cup.
The varsity eight will kick off the weekend as they hit the water first to compete Saturday (April 1) at 9:30 a.m. in heat 2 of the Women's Collegiate Varsity Jessop-Whittier Cup Invitational. They will race against Oxford, Stanford, California, Notre Dame, Texas, Washington, and Washington State.Â
The USC varsity four will compete next in the 10:26 a.m. heat 1 of the Women's Collegiate Varsity 4+ Karen Plumleigh Cortney Cup against LMU, MIT, Stanford, UC San Diego, California, Notre Dame, San Diego, Texas, Washington, and Washington State.Â
The Trojan's second varsity eight will race in the 10:42 a.m. heat 1 of the Women's Collegiate 2V Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness Trophy. They compete against LMU, MIT, Stanford, UC San Diego, California, California, Notre Dame, San Diego, Texas, Washington, and Washington State.Â
Â
