No. 19 USC Women's Soccer Shuts Down Purdue, 4-0
August 31, 2023 | Women's Soccer
LOS ANGELES – The No. 19 USC women's soccer team exploded for four goals on Thursday afternoon, taking down Purdue 4-0 in a non-conference matchup.
Four different Trojans scored in the contest as USC moves to 3-1 on the season. Purdue falls to 2-3 with the loss.
Hannah Griffin opened the scoring just over a minute into the game, but the offensive explosion didn't continue until the second half as the two teams battled through the first 45 minutes of play. The contest was nearly tied at the break if it were not for Angeles Escobar saving a ball off the line in the 33rd minute.
The final three goals all came within nine minutes of each other, with Kayla Colbert opening the barrage in the 56th minute. Aaliyah Farmer struck in the 58th minute and Katie Roditis capped things off with a goal in the 64th.
Griffin's goal was her first as a Trojan, and both Sampaio and Roditis netted their first of the year. Colbert leads the team with two goals and two assists after her goal on Thursday.
Hannah Poulter had to make one save in goal to pick up the shutout as USC outshot Purdue 10-5.
GOAL
2' – USC: Hannah Griffin (assisted by Zoe Burns, Aaliyah Farmer) – Farmer switched the field and played a ball down to Burns on the right sideline. 58' – USC: Helena Sampaio (assisted by Aaliyah Farmer) – Farmer played a ball ahead into the area where Sampaio fired it off the keeper and inside the right post.
64' – USC: Katie Roditis (assisted by Izzy Kimberly, Florianne Jourde) – Jourde slid a pass to Kimberly in the middle of the 18-yard box and Kimberly sent a quick pass to Roditis on the right, who fired it across goal and inside the left post.
