USC Women's Soccer Opens Pac-12 Play with 2-0 Win at Utah

SALT LAKE CITY – The USC women's soccer team rode two first-half goals and stifling defense to a 2-0 win at Utah in the team's Pac-12 opener on Friday night.
The Trojans notched their third shutout in the last four games, as USC moves to 5-2 overall on the year and 1-0 in Pac-12 play. Utah falls to 4-3-3, 0-1-0.
The Trojans came out firing in the first half, getting goals from Kayla Colbert and Zoe Burns to grab the early lead. Colbert struck in the 8th minute, getting the assist from Burns and Florianne Jourde for her team-leading fourth goal of the year. Burns' strike came in the 38th minute and was her first of the season.
Hannah Dickinson made four saves in goal, picking up the first shutout of her career. Both teams had 12 shots and five on target in the game. Angeles Escobar saved a ball off the line for USC in the 31st minute.
GOALS
8' – USC: Kayla Colbert (assisted by Zoe Burns, Florianne Jourde) – Burns and Jourde played a give-and-go to get Burns into the area, and Burns slid a pass across to Colbert, who collected and fired it home from about seven yards out in front of goal.
38' – USC: Zoe Burns (assisted by Keely Roy) – After a series of quick passes in the midfield, Roy poked a ball forward for Burns who headed it down and ran onto it in the area, sliding a right-footed shot past the Utah keeper and inside the left post.

The Trojans stay on the road as they continue Pac-12 play, heading north to face Washington State on Thursday and Washington on Sunday. Both contests will be televised on the Pac-12 Network.
