EVANSTON, Ill. – The No. 19 USC women's soccer team played through some unpredictable weather to pick up a gritty 2-1 win on the road at Northwestern on Sunday afternoon, staying unbeaten in Big Ten play and tied atop the conference standings in the process.

Maria Alagoa and Ines Derrien provided the goals, and Laurence Gladu added several highlight-reel saves as USC moves to 11-1-2 overall and 7-0-1 in Big Ten play. Northwestern falls to 5-8-3, 0-6-2.

With rain appearing just before kickoff and high winds appearing throughout the afternoon, USC struck first, getting a goal from Alagoa in the 15^th minute to take a 1-0 advantage into the half.

The Trojan lead lasted until the 53^rd minute when Northwestern found an equalizer off a set piece, scoring in traffic on a long free kick played deep into the box.

Derrien would put USC back in front just about six minutes later, as she fought her way into the area and was taken down to earn a penalty kick. Derrien would convert the PK for her first collegiate goal.

Gladu made five saves in the contest, with four coming in the second half.
