No. 17 USC Sets Off to 51st Annual San Diego Crew Classic
April 03, 2024 | Women's Rowing
The Trojans will compete in one category, the Women’s Open 8+ Carley Copley Cup.
LOS ANGELES – The No. 17 USC Women's Rowing team heads south to compete in the 51st annual San Diego Crew Classic on Saturday, April 6 and Sunday, 7 in Mission Bay, Calif. The Trojans will compete in one category, the Women's Open 8+ Carley Copley Cup.Â
Â
This regatta, raced on the waters of Mission Bay, has historically been a strong event for the Women of Troy. The Trojans competed in the San Diego Crew Classic in 2022. When the Trojans raced in this regatta in 2017, the varsity four took home the Karen Plumleigh Cortney Cup after winning the Grand Final in the Women's Collegiate Varsity 4+ race. From 2011-15, USC's varsity eight won five-straight Grand Finals, receiving the prestigious Jessop-Whittier Cup.Â
Â
The Trojans will begin racing with the Women's Open 8+, Carley Copley Cup, set to race at 11:34 a.m. on Saturday, April 6. USC boats will compete against boats from California, UC San Diego, San Diego, Austin, and Washington. On Sunday, April 7, the final for the Women's Open 8+, Carley Copley Cup will be at 11:10 as Saturday is the preliminary race.Â
Â
In 2022-23, USC made its second of back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Championships and finished 16th with 42 points. Under sixth-year head coach Josh Adam, the Women of Troy claimed a fourth-place finish at the Pac-12 Championships and had junior Zoe McCutcheon named to the All-Conference Team. The Trojans swept crosstown rival UCLA in the annual rivalry dual to open the spring and improved to 20-1 all-time in head-to-head meetings with the Bruins. USC was ranked for much of the season in the Pocock CRCA Poll.
