USC Women's Soccer Falls at Minnesota, 2-1

MINNEAPOLIS – A late goal sunk the USC women's soccer team on the road at Minnesota as the Golden Gophers scored in the 83rd minute to beat the Trojans 2-1 on Thursday night in Minneapolis.
USC falls to 7-4-1 overall and 4-3 in Big Ten play with the loss. Minnesota improves to 6-6-1, 2-4-1.
The Golden Gophers got on the board early, scoring in the second minute of play after getting a ball in behind the USC defense. After a more than 30-minute lightning delay, the Trojans found an equalizer in the 23rd minute. Jaiden Anderson drew a penalty and Maribel Flores took the kick but had it saved, only for Anderson to follow up and slot home the rebound.
Caroline Birdsell, who assisted Minnesota's opening goal, scored the winner off a set piece in the 83rd minute, heading in a ball sent into the box. Paige Kalal, who scored the early goal, sent in the long pass off a free kick.
GOAL
2' – MINN: Paige Kalal (Assisted by Freya Jupp, Caroline Birdsell) – Through ball played in behind defense, centering pass back to the middle of the box from the right side where Kalal shot inside the right post.
23' – USC: Jaiden Anderson (Assisted by Maribel Flores) – Anderson drew a penalty and Flores took the kick, but had her shot blocked. Anderson was there for the rebound, however, charging in and slotting it inside the right post.
83' – MINN: Caroline Birdsell (Assisted by Paige Kalal) – Kalal sent a free kick into the box and Birdsell headed it over the USC keeper and in.
