No. 22 USC Lacrosse Puts on Offensive Clinic Against San Diego State

The Trojans scored 21 goals against the Aztecs for the second-straight year, as three players post hat tricks in the 21-14 win
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – No. 22 USC lacrosse (5-1) put on an offensive demonstration as it scored over 20 goals for the first time this season in a 21-14 victory over San Diego State (4-2) on Saturday, Mar. 1 at the Aztec Lacrosse Field.

The Women of Troy have a quick turnaround ahead of their next nonconference matchup, as they take on Saint Joseph's at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Mar. 4 at Dignity Health Sports Park. That game will be streamed via Big Ten Plus.

- In the draw circle, sophomore Anna Regan set a new program record, breaking her own record, with 18 draw controls in the game. She previously had 17 against UC Davis on Mar. 16, 2024.
- Three Trojans posted hat tricks as senior Maddie Dora led the charge with five goals in the outing. Redshirt senior Isabelle Vitale joined Dora, as did freshman Kaylee Fravert. This is Dora's sixth hat trick this season – 13th of her career – Vitale posted her second – 18th of her career – and this is Fravert's second of the season, as this is her second straight. Three other Trojans had multiple goals, with senior Christina Gagnon, redshirt sophomore Hannah Barron and sophomore Reese Robinson all scoring two.
- Vitale tied her career high with eight points (five assists and three goals), as she posted eight points (four goals and four assists) against San Diego State on Feb. 12, 2022.
- Three USC players posted caused turnovers in this matchup, as sophomore Lily Bunting, freshman Alexis May and sophomore Emma Bunting all had one. Junior Kate Gerrity led the team in ground balls as she picked up four.
- Two goalkeepers appeared in net for the Women of Troy, as sophomore Annie Shields started the game in the first three quarters and was followed up by senior Mia Fleming in the fourth. Shields had the winning decision with five saves and nine goals against, while Fleming allowed five goals and had two saves.
- This game was a tale of three-fourths, as USC dominated for three quarters, outscoring SDSU 20-9 in the first, second and fourth quarters. The lone quarter the Trojans fell behind was the third, as they were outscored 5-1.
- USC posted its most goals in the first half of the season, with 14, beating its previous best of nine. The Trojans also posted their highest-scoring quarter all season, with eight in the second quarter. During that quarter, USC scored every minute from 11:18 to 6:47 and twice in the six-minute mark as freshman Alexis May scored her second career goal at 6:47, and E. Bunting followed that with a goal 22 seconds later. Vitale would wrap up the scoring as USC took a commanding 14-4 lead into the half.
- The Trojans earned a running clock heading into halftime but quickly had that stripped away as the Aztecs won the third. The scoring fest continued into the final quarter as 11 goals were scored, with USC taking home six and SDSU posting five of its own. Fravert scored two of her three goals in the fourth to earn her second straight hat trick. In her last two games, five of her six goals have come in the second half. Redshirt sophomore Lillie Bea Cope produced her first career goal in the game's final minute at 52 seconds, as she would wrap up the score 21-14.

- The Trojans are now 67-32 all-time in road games and are 8-0 against the Aztecs on the road. USC is 14-1 against SDSU and has now won five-straight against SDSU.
- The Women of Troy went 5-1 against their former conference mates as they played all six non-Big Ten teams during the nonconference slate.
- USC improved to 52-10 against current Big 12 members and is 4-0 against the conference this season (Colorado, UC Davis, Arizona State and SDSU).
- Dora has scored five or more goals in four of her six games this season.
