KEY PLAYERS:
- In a dominant display, defense was key, which reigned true for senior Alexis Niblock. Niblock posted a career-high six caused turnovers and picked up three ground balls in the win. Sophomore Lily Bunting led the team for ground balls, as she had four.
- Freshman Kaylee Fravert posted a career-high for goals as she had four in the outing. This is her fourth hat trick of the season.
- In the draw circle, senior Catherine Lord led the way with six draw controls, and sophomore Anna Regan followed that with five.
- Freshman Charlotte Morton moved to 2-3 on the season, picking up the win after posting seven saves and allowing just four goals.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The first half of the game was defensive-minded as USC allowed a season-low two goals for Rutgers. The Trojans were able to limit the Scarlet Knights to five shots on goal in the first half and forced nine turnovers. On the other hand, the same could be said, as USC managed three goals. Like Rutgers, turnovers plagued the Trojans as they turned it over eight times in the first half. With the defense claiming the upper hand, USC was able to skate out of the first up 3-2.
- It was a tale of two halves for the Trojans as they started to find their offensive rhythm with four in the third. The two transfers opened the scoring for USC in the second half, as junior Casey Roberts scored at 14:37. After a Scarlet Knights goal, sophomore Reese Robinson recorded her second of the day at 10:43. Robinson – a transfer from Rutgers – ended her day with two goals and one assist. USC would nab two more before the Scarlet Knights wrapped up the third with a goal, and the Trojans led 7-4.
- It was a completely different ballgame in the fourth; the Trojans secured the draw control advantage 7-0 and netted six goals in the quarter. A close game quickly got out of hand, as the Scarlet Knights got only three offensive possessions and did not record a shot during the quarter. Eventually, USC secured the win 13-4 and, in turn, moved up to sixth in the conference standings.
