USC Women’s Golf Settles into the Middle of the Pack After Day One of Big Ten Championships
April 18, 2025 | Women's Golf
HAVRE DE GRACE, Md. – Junior Catherine Park set herself as a contender for the Big Ten Title, as she is second on the leaderboard at two-under par after the first round. USC, as a squad, is seventh out of 18 teams in its debut round of the Big Ten Championships, as it is six-over (294) after day one on Friday, Apr. 18, at the Bulle Rock Golf Course.
The Trojans sit eight strokes back of the leader after counting scores of 70-72-75-77 in the first round of play. Oregon and Illinois are tied for the lead at two-under par.
Park bolstered her fourth-straight round of par or better, as the junior is getting hot at the right time. In the last tournament, she finished tied for second (Chevron Silverado Showdown) and hopes to do one better than that to win her second straight conference individual title (2024 Pac-12 title).
Park was one of just nine players in the field to shoot below par, as she recorded a 70 (-2). A vast majority of her success came on the front end, as she posted a 34 (-2) on the front and was even (36) on the back nine. The junior recorded three birdies and one bogey in the first nine holes, followed by two and two on the last nine.
Sophomore Bailey Shoemaker was one of the players who just missed being below par, as she was even-par through the first round. Shoemaker utilized a late surge to save her spot amongst the top ten, as she was two-over for the day before she birdied No. 14 and 17.
For much of the field, the back nine proved to be the tougher side of the course, and that was true for the remaining Trojan scores. Freshman Jasmine Koo recorded a 75 (+3) in the first round and was four-over par on the back nine. After going one-under par on the front nine, she started hole No. 10 with a bogey and bogeyed three of the last four holes on the course. The freshman is currently tied for 35th in the tournament.
Freshman Kylie Chong ended her first-day five-over par and is tied for 59th on the leaderboard. Chong also carded a 40 (-4) on the back nine as she had a double bogey on her scorecard on No. 12.
Senior Xin (Cindy) Kou had the non-counting score for today at seven-over par, tying her for 75th on the leaderboard.
USC will head into the tournament's second day starting at 5:30 a.m. PT/8:30 a.m. ET tomorrow at the Bulle Rock Golf Course in Havre de Grace, Md.
