No. 17 USC Women’s Tennis Drops Big Ten Quarterfinal Match to No. 18 Washington

OJAI – No. 17 USC women's tennis stalled out during singles play, falling 4-1 to No. 18 Washington 4-1 on Thursday evening during the Big Ten Championship Tournament Quarterfinals at Libbey Park.
The Trojans, seeded No. 6 in the Big Ten Tournament, drop to 16-7 overall, while the No. 4 seeded Huskies improve to 20-3 and advance to the tournament semifinals.
In doubles, Jana Hossam and Sloane Morra positioned USC to take an early lead, downing Luescher/Matsuda of Washington 6-3 on court two. USC's No. 11 ranked pair of Grace Piper and Lily Fairclough followed suit, recording a 7-6(5) comeback win over Washington's No. 57 ranked pair of Alexia Jacobs and Reece Carter to haul in the early point for the Trojans. Down 2-5 early, Piper and Fairclough battled to erase the deficit and get the win in the tiebreak.
Moving into singles play, Washington found momentum, winning four straight singles matches to take down the Trojans 4-1 overall. USC stalled out as Emma Charney, Lily Fairclough, Sloane Morra and Jana Hossam all fell on their respective courts.
USC now awaits its fate in the NCAA Team Tournament, with the selection show scheduled for Monday, April 28 at 2 p.m. PT.
