No. 17 USC Women’s Tennis Punches Ticket Into 2025 NCAA Team Tournament

Trojans head to Baton Rouge for first round match against Memphis on Friday.
LOS ANGELES – No. 17 USC women's tennis is set to open up its 2025 NCAA campaign from Louisiana, as the Trojans travel to Baton Rouge to face Memphis in the first round of action on Friday, May 2 at 10 a.m. PT.
No. 13 seed LSU will face off on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. against Stephen F. Austin. Winning teams will square off in the NCAA Second Round at 12 p.m. on Saturday (May 3) to fight for a ticket to the NCAA Super Regional at Ohio State.
The eight teams that advance out of the Super Regional will head to Waco, Texas for the quarterfinals through national championship. Matches will be played at the Baylor's Hurd Tennis Center.

RANKINGS: The Women of Troy enter this week ranked No. 16 in the country and boast three ranked singles and one doubles pair. Junior No. 58 Emma Charney leads the way for USC in the singles rankings, followed by senior No. 71 Grace Piper and sophomore No. 103 Immi Haddad.
The Women of Troy also boast one of the top duos in the country in the No. 10 ranked pair of Lily Fairclough and Grace Piper.
CHAMPIONSHIP NOTES The Women of Troy hold a 78-39 record in the tournament. USC has won seven national championships in all, including NCAA titles in 1983 and 1985 after the NCAA began its women's tennis championships in 1982. USC has won five National Singles Championships (1976 - Barbara Hallquist [USTA], 1977 - Barbara Hallquist [USTA], 1978 - Stacy Margolin [USTA], 1981 - Anna Maria Fernandez [AIAW], 1983 - Beth Herr [NCAA]) and two National Doubles Championships (1980 - Trey Lewis/Anne White [AIAW], 2013 - Kaitlyn Christian/Sabrina Santamaria [NCAA]).
This year's selection marks USC's 41st NCAA Tournament appearance, with the Trojans making the tournament 26 straight years from 1991-2017.
In 2024, No. 11 seed USC was selected to host the first and second rounds, winning both matches before falling to No. 6 seed Pepperdine in the Super Regional. The Trojans reaching the round of 16 was their best showing since 2021.
BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIP RECAP
USC came up short in its pursuit of a Big Ten title last week, beating Michigan State 4-1 in the opening round of play before falling to No. 4 seed Washington 4-1 in the quarterfinals.
The Trojans claimed the doubles point both days but stalled out in singles play against the Spartans to eventually drop the match.
REGULAR SEASON RECAP
USC wrapped up the regular season 15-6 and 9-4 in Big Ten play, locking down the No. 6 seed in the Conference Championship Tournament. The Trojans remained in the ITA's top 25 the entirety of the spring, while also boasting a minimum of three ranked singles players at any given time. USC's top duo in No. 11 Lily Fairclough and Grace Piper was in the nation's top 15 all season, carrying an impressive 13-3 dual match record this spring.
The Trojans claimed the doubles point 18 times this season while going 15-3 when capturing the early point. Against stiff competition USC excelled, beating No. 7 Texas and No. 19 Wisconsin this season.
Three Women of Troy were clutch down the stretch in the regular season, with Maia Sung, Jana Hossam and Grace Piper each clinching three matches for USC.
SCOUTING MEMPHIS
Memphis, unranked, enters the NCAA tournament with a 10-13 overall record. Most recently, the Tigers raised the American Athletic Conference trophy, defeating Tulsa 4-2 to earn an NCAA automatic berth.
Memphis boasts one ranked singles player in No. 105 Leonie Moeller, who carries an impressive singles record of 26-13.
SCOUTING LSU
LSU, currently ranked No. 12 in the country enters this weekend 21-7. The Tigers fell to No. 3 seed Oklahoma 4-1 in the SEC Tournament quarterfinal.
Entering this weekend, LSU has three ranked singles players – No. 12 Cadence Brace, No. 44 Kayla Cross and No. 118 Gaby Rivera. In doubles, the Tigers are just as strong, boasting three ranked pairs in No. 7 Cadence Brace/Kayla Cross, No. 38 Tilwith Di Girolami/Anita Sahdiieva and No. 61 Kenna Erickson/Anita Sahdiieva.

Boasting a record of 17-6, Stephen F. Austin defeated Texas A&M Corpus Christi 4-0 to capture the Southland Conference Tournament Championship and earn an NCAA automatic berth. Currently, SFA does not have any ranked singles or doubles players.
