USC Women’s Golf Wraps Up Round One at Silverado Showdown in Third
April 07, 2025 | Women's Golf
NAPA, Calif. – Freshman Jasmine Koo set herself up for a run at her program-record fifth win of the season as she finished day one tied for second at two-under par. USC wrapped up the first round third out of 16 teams with a 290 (+2), Monday, Apr. 7, at the Silverado C.C. & Resort.
The Trojans utilized a one-under-par back nine compared to a three-over-par front nine, as they moved from seventh at the beginning of the day to third by the end of the first round. USC trails the leaders by three strokes, while Northwestern and CSU Fullerton are co-leaders at one-under par.
Koo once again propelled herself to the top of the leaderboard early, as she produced her 16th round of par or better in her 23rd round this season and is tied for second in the field. The freshman played the round oppositely of her teammates as she was the lone player to have a better front nine compared to once she hit the turn. Koo posted a 33 (-2) on the front and a 37 (E) on the back, as she was bogeyless in the first nine. Koo is four back of the lead, as Fullerton's Kaitlyn Zermeno Smith leads the tournament at six-under par.
At the cornerstone of the back nine comeback was junior Catherine Park. Park posted a 71 (-1) and was one-under par after the turn. The junior recorded two birdies during the round – one on the front and one on the back – and one bogey on hole No. 3. Park is tied for sixth in the field.
Freshman Kylie Chong had a solid day as she was third on the team at one-over par. Chong bogeyed two holes and saved her score a bit with a birdie on the par five No. 18 to end her round. Chong is tied for 25th in the field after the first round.
Sophomore Bailey Shoemaker rounded out the counting scores as she was four-over par on the day. Two double bogeys hurt Shoemaker's round as she carded a 39 (+4) on the front side and a 37 (E) on the back. The sophomore is currently tied for 46th on the leaderboard.
Senior Xin (Cindy) Kou ended her round with a 78 (+6), as she had two double bogeys and two bogeys. Kou is tied for 63rd in the field.
USC will continue to day two tomorrow at 8 a.m. at the Silverado C.C. & Resort in Napa, Calif.
