September 28, 2025 | Women's Soccer
LOS ANGELES – The USC women's soccer team finished off a 2-0 homestand on Sunday afternoon, taking down Rutgers 2-1 in a Big Ten matinee at Rawlinson Stadium.
The Trojans scored both goals in the first half and held on despite a late strike from the visitors. USC moves to 6-3-1 overall on the season and 3-2 in Big Ten play after beating both the Scarlet Knights and Maryland this week. Rutgers falls to 3-3-4, 1-3-1.
Jaiden Anderson got USC on the board early, finishing a pass from Maribel Flores in the sixth minute. Ines Derrien doubled the lead in the 27th minute as she curled in a shot from outside the penalty area. The Trojans nearly made it three in the first half as Hana Mizumoto drew a penalty in the 42nd minute, but the Rutgers keeper made a diving save on the attempt.
The USC defense held the Scarlet Knights to just four shots in each half and only three on target for the game, keeping the visitors off of the scoreboard until the 77th minute when Allie Post headed in a cross for Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights had just one shot over the final 13 minutes of play as USC held on for the victory.
The Trojans owned a 12-8 shots advantage and 5-1 corner kick edge. It was the fourth goal of the season for both Derrien and Anderson.
