ATLANTA — The No. 2 USC Women's Golf Team earned the top seed for the East Lake Cup match play after firing the lowest round of the day at the East Lake Golf Club on Monday.
The Trojans sat in third place at the turn of the par-72, 6,185-yard course before surging to the top of the leaderboard on the back side to finish with a 280 (-8). All four scorers finished under par on the back side to help USC win by two strokes over Arkansas.
With the result, the Trojans will be the top seed for the East Lake Cup match play portion, which begins tomorrow at 7:40 a.m. PT. The event will be televised on the Golf Channel. A link to live results will be on the women's golf team's schedule page on usctrojans.com.
Juniors Kylie Chong and Jasmine Koo had a shared second-place finish with 69s (-3). Koo was one-under at the turn and shot up the leaderboard with four birdies in the first six holes on the back side. However, a double-bogey on No. 16 sent her into second place. Chong, on the other hand, momentarily moved into the lead on the back side and nearly missed an eagle on No. 14 that could have given her the lead. Nevertheless, her round featured just one bogey on No. 3 and four birdies.
Senior Bailey Shoemaker joined her teammates in the top 10 by tying for sixth with a 70 (-2). Shoemaker played bogey-free golf for the first 14 holes before a bogey on No. 15 brought her score back to par. She had two birdies on the back side.
Junior Elise Lee and sophomore Sarah Hammett rounded out the Trojans, placing 11th and 14th, respectively. Lee fired a 72 (E), while Hammett was one stroke behind with a 73 (+1)
