No. 4 USC Men's Volleyball Chops Down Oaks in 3-0 Sweep

The Trojans won their fifth straight match behind a .448 hitting performance and seven blocks
LOS ANGELES – The fourth-ranked USC men's volleyball team (13-3, 5-2 MPSF) collected a 3-0 sweep (25-14, 25-11, 25-20) of Menlo (3-12, 2-4) at Galen Center on Friday, March 27. The Trojans won their 15th consecutive set in the sweep; the longest set streak under head coach Jeff Nygaard.

- Fr. OH Cooper Keane led all players with 16.0 points earned on 13 kills (3e, 20att) and hit .500 to go with a team-best eight digs. He also had two blocks and served a pair of aces.
- So. OH Sterling Foley totaled six kills (0e) on eight swings (.750).
- Sr. OH Dillon Klein had five kills, three service aces, three assists, and a block.
- So. OH Christian Connell tallied four kills, two blocks, and a service ace.
- Jr. S Caleb Blanchette dished out 17 assists and had four digs, a block, and an ace in two sets of action.
- So. LIB Johnny Dykstra put up seven digs and had an assist.
- Redshirt So. MB Wesley Smith led all players with six blocks and added three kills and an assist.
- Jr. MB Thiago Zamprogno had four kills (1e) on just six swings to hit .500 and added four digs, a block, and a service ace.
- For the Oaks, Max Jarrett had 12 kills. Former Trojan setter Joshua Friedman dished out 19 assists and had three digs and a block. Alexandre Ferdani had three kills and four digs.
- USC hit .448 (37k, 7e, 67att) over Menlo's .039 hitting percentage and had more kills (37-21), assists (36-21), digs (30-20), blocks (7-4), and service aces (8-1) than the Oaks.
- The Trojans went wire-to-wire with the lead in the opening set to claim a 25-14 win behind .500 hitting (15k, 3e) on 24 attacks. Keane delivered six kills and hit .500 while Klein had four and hit .444. Keane also racked up five digs on defense and was part of a pair of Trojan blocks to help hold the Oaks to a .100 hitting rate (8k, 5e) on 30 swings. USC served three aces—one each from Klein, Blanchette, and Zamprogno—in the win.
- USC went up, 2-0, with a dominating 25-11 win in the second frame and hit without error for a .684 performance with 13 kills on 19 swings. Dykstra collected four digs and Smith had four blocks as part of an effort to hold the Oaks to a negative .133 hitting percentage (4k, 6e) on 15 attempts. Foley led the offense with four kills while Keane added three more and Smith and Zamprogno each put in a pair.
- The Trojans completed the sweep with a 25-20 win in the third behind four kills from Keane and four from Connell. The Oaks were the most competitive in the third but committed seven hitting errors (one on a USC block) and hit .065 with nine kills on 31 attacks in the loss.
- USC and Menlo meet for a rematch on Saturday (March 28) at 5 p.m. PT that will be shown live on Big Ten Plus.
- USC improved to 3-0 all-time against Menlo and faced the Oaks as fellow members of the MPSF for the first time.
- The Trojans moved to 10-2 at Galen Center this spring.
- USC logged its ninth 3-0 sweep of the season.
- USC's fifth straight win is also its fifth straight sweep to bring the Trojans' run of sets won to a season-best 15 in a row. The streak is the longest under head coach Jeff Nygaard and the longest since 2012 when USC won 16 in a row from March 10-31. The only two longer set streaks in school history were 17 (1994) and 21 (1991) both in the sideout scoring era.
- The Trojans hit better than .300 for the 13th time; over .400 for the eighth time; and over .450 for the fourth time.
