USC's Eugenia Zozaya Earns Second Big Ten Freshman of the Week Honor

LOS ANGELES – USC women's tennis freshman Eugenia Zozaya has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week, marking the second time this month and second time in her career she has earned the conference honor.

Zozaya delivered in a clutch moment for the Women of Troy last week, securing the match-clinching point in No. 14 USC's 4-2 victory over No. 17 UCLA. Competing on court three, the freshman rallied after dropping the opening set to defeat Kate Fakih, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4, sealing the rivalry win.

Currently ranked No. 123 in the ITA singles rankings, Zozaya has been a consistent force in the Trojans' lineup throughout her debut season. She leads USC with 26 total singles wins, including 15 during dual match play this spring.

The Oviedo, Spain native has competed as high as the No. 2 position in the lineup but has found particular success on court three, where she holds a 5-1 record.

Zozaya's continued emergence has played a key role in USC's success this season, as the freshman continues to deliver in high-pressure moments for the Trojans.
