Three Trojans scored double-digit points to power USC to its seventh straight victory and 21st consecutive set won

LOS ANGELES – The fourth-ranked USC men's volleyball team (15-3, 7-2 MPSF) swept 14th-ranked Stanford (9-11, 6-3) in straight sets (25-14, 25-21, 25-22) at Galen Center on Friday, April 3, to extend to a seven-match win streak, which includes a school-record tying 21 sets in a row.

KEY PLAYERS

Sr. OH Dillon Klein led all players with 19.0 points on a team best 15 kills (4e, 23att) and .478 hitting. He also had three service aces, a solo block, and picked up four digs. It was his 76th-career match in double-digit kills in 95 contests.
Fr. OPP Cooper Keane was one kill shy of matching his career high and finished with 13 kills (4e, 21att) on .429 hitting to go with a pair of service aces and three digs.
So. OH Sterling Foley had 10.5 points on seven kills (1e, 19att, .316) with four blocks (one solo), three digs, and an ace.
Jr. S Caleb Blanchette handed out 37 assists and set the Trojans to .388 hitting with 43 kills (12e, 80att). He also had six digs and a pair of blocks.
So. MB Parker Tomkinson finished with 8.0 points earned on five kills (2e, 10att, .300) and five blocks (one solo).
So. LIB Johnny Dykstra put up six digs and had a pair of assists.
For the Cardinal, Moses Wagner led the way with 14 kills and .346 hitting. Evan Porter led all players with 10 digs. Alex Rottman totaled seven kills on .333 hitting and had four blocks and three digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

USC hit .388 over Stanford's .178 and hit north of .300 for the 15th time this spring. The Trojans had more kills (43-28), assists (41-28), digs (26-22), and service aces (7-3) than the Cardinal. USC also had a slight statistical edge in blocks, 9.5-9.0.
The Trojans racked up 13 kills on 18 attacks without an error to hit .722 in a 25-14 first-set win. Klein led all hitters with five kills while Keane had four and Foley tallied two. Wesley Smith had a pair of solo blocks and Tomkinson had one as part of an effort to hold the Cardinal to .136 hitting with eight kills (5e) on 22 attacks. Despite the large margin of victory, the teams went through five ties before back-to-back kills by Klein put the Trojans ahead for good.
USC led set two, 10-6, but the Cardinal went ahead momentarily at 13-12 before a service ace by Foley put the Trojans in front, 15-13, and on the way to a 25-21 win for a 2-0 lead in the match. Keane scored five of the Trojans' 11 kills (4e, 21att, .333). USC put up four blocks and had just three digs but held the Cardinal to a .150 hitting percentage (9k, 6e) on 20 attacks. Klein and Tomkinson each had a pair of kills in the set.
Klein came alive in the third and delivered eight kills on just 13 swings to help bring the Trojans back from an early deficit for a 25-22 win to cement the sweep. Foley and Keane each contributed four kills apiece and Tomkinson had two including the kill to set USC up with match point. Despite six Stanford blocks, the Trojans out-hit the Cardinal, .268 to .226 in the third and totaled 19 kills (8e) on 41 attacks.

MATCH NOTES

USC improved to 74-41 all-time against Stanford and has won each of the last two meetings.
The Trojans moved to 12-2 at Galen Center this spring.
USC logged its 11th straight-set sweep of the season.
USC's seventh straight win is also its seventh straight sweep to bring the Trojans' run of sets won to a season-best 21 in a row. The streak is the longest under head coach Jeff Nygaard and ties the longest set streak in school history set in 1991.
The Trojans hit better than .300 for the 15th time.
