Sophomore Jaden Dumdumaya leads the Trojans in a tie for sixth place with a -1.
NORTH PLAINS, Ore. — The USC Men's Golf team is in a tie for 11th place out of 18 teams after the first round of the Big Ten Championships, held at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club on Friday, May 1.
The Trojans found trouble throughout the front side of the par-70, 7,018-yard track and slid to the bottom of the leaderboard before improving on the back side. On a day where only one team finished below par, USC's 293 (+13) in the first round is two strokes back from 10th-place Maryland. No. 12 Illinois is currently in the lead with a 279 (-1), while Freddie Turnell of Illinois, Jeremy Chen of Northwestern and Josh Kim of UCLA are in a three-way tie for first with 67s (-3).
Sophomore Jaden Dumdumaya leads the team in a five-way tie for sixth with a 69 (-1). Dumdumaya found trouble on the front side with a double bogey and a bogey, but made a birdie at the turn that began a stretch of four birdies over six holes. He had a bogey-free back side and four birdies on the day to be the lone Trojan under par.
Fellow sophomore Jack Buchanan is in a five-way tie for 11th with a 70 (E). He found trouble midway through the front side with a double bogey on No. 3 and a bogey two holes later. However, he lowered his score with a birdie on No. 8 before faring better on the back side with two birdies to just one bogey.
Junior Nicolas Dominguez is in a tie for 69th with a 76 (+6), while freshman Raghav Gulati and Luke Stock are tied for 82nd with 78s (+8).
