No. 22 USC Men’s Golf Finishes in Third at the Vuori Invitational

USC made the biggest move out of any team in the final round.
SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Making the biggest move of any team in the final round, the No. 22 USC Men's Golf Team placed third out of 12 teams at the Vuori Invitational, which concluded at Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club in San Diego, Calif. Tuesday.
One of three teams with a round below par on the day, USC fired a 283 (-1) on the par-71, 7,003-yard track to finish with an 863 (+11). The Trojans began the day in a tie for sixth place, but moved up three spots on the front side and held off several challengers for the team's best result of the season thus far.
"We played solid today," Head Coach Mark Hankins said. "We started strong and really grinded it out when the course got tough in the afternoon. We had some clutch performances with Jaden firing -3 today, Nico at even today, Josh at one over and Jack posting his first top-10 finish of the season. We showed great mental improvement from last week and some good wins to build momentum this fall."
Champion No. 8 Arkansas was the only team to finish at or below par with an even-par 852, edging out runner-up Colorado by a single stroke. San Diego State's Brayden Forte took home medalist honors after firing a 208 (-5). He was one of just four players to finish below par.
Junior Jack Buchanan led the Trojans by placing 10th with a 214 (+1). He took the lead at the turn after having two birdies to just one bogey on the front side, yet found trouble with a pair of bogeys on the back side to fire a 72 (+1). This was the sixth top-10 finish of his career and his best result of the season so far.
Fellow junior Jaden Dumdumaya fired the best round of the day with a 68 (-3) to tie for 16th with a 217 (+4). He moved up 34 places, which led the Trojans in the final round. Firing the best round of the tournament for USC, Dumdumaya played bogey-free golf for the first 13 holes, including four birdies on the front side and another on the par-4 No. 10. However, Dumdumaya ran into trouble with three birdies from Nos. 14-17. But his birdie on the final hole was critical for the Trojans, as it broke a tie with BYU to move into third place. This was his 14th career top-25 finish and his best result of the season so far.
Completing his first tournament in the Trojan lineup, sophomore Joshua Hong tied for 20th with a 218 (+5). Hong played bogey-free golf on the front side with three birdies, yet he found trouble after making the turn with a triple bogey on No. 10 and a bogey on No. 16 to finish with a 72 (+1). This was the ninth top-25 finish of his career and his best result of the season.
Rounding out the Trojan scorers, senior Nicolas Dominguez tied for 22nd with a 219 (+6). He was one of two Trojans to fire a round at par or better in the final round with an even-par 71 that helped him rise 20 spots in the individual leaderboard. Dominguez had two birdies and two bogeys apiece on both the front and back side.
Freshman William Hou tied for 44th with a 224 (+11) after firing a 77 (+6) in the final round.
