BREAKDOWN: J’Raan Brooks is a 6-9, 220-pound forward who has a good mid-range game and is a strong rebounder. He is a versatile player who can play several positions on the court.
2018-19: Brooks played in 28 games as a freshman, averaging 2.0 points and 1.3 rebounds. He played seven or more minutes 17 times and averaged 8.2 minutes per game. He played in his first game as a Trojan on Nov. 11 vs. Vanderbilt and missed his only shot. He scored his first career points in the next game, going 3-for-3 from the floor and scoring 8 points vs. Stetson on Nov. 14. He came off the bench to keep the Trojans in the game at UCLA on Feb. 28, making 5 of 7 shots and scoring a career-best 11 points. He had a rebound high with four vs. Stanford on Jan. 6.
HIGH SCHOOL: Brooks graduated from Garfield High in Seattle, Wash. in 2018, helping lead his team to the 3A title with a 72-63 overtime win over Rainier Beach on March 3...fellow freshman Kevin Porter Jr. was on the Rainier squad. Brooks averaged 15 points and 11 rebounds and was voted first-team All-Metro and Co-Defensive Player of the Year, as well as being named to the Class 3A First Team. Brooks was ranked No. 76 on Rivals and No. 84 on the ESPN Top 100 recruits list for the 2018 class. Garfield High, coached by Brandon Roy, went 28-2 and finished ranked No. 11 in the country after being invited to play in the Geico Nationals.
PERSONAL: Brooks was born on May 13, 1999 in Newport RI. His mother is Jen Brooks and his brother’s name is Jvonte. His hobbies include playing video games and photography. Lists his favorite musical artists as Travis Scott, Migos, Lil Baby, Gunna and Juice Wrld. Says his favorite foods are pasta and ribs. He would like to be remembered not only as a good basketball player, but as a student-athlete who bettered himself. Brooks would like to travel to Europe someday. He is a Business major at USC.
