BREAKDOWN: Redshirt senior 6-9, 225-pound forward Chevez Goodwin is a consistent scorer and tough rebounder who was a key reserve for USC last season, after transferring from Wofford. He earned a degree in computer science with a minor in film and digital media at Wofford.
2020-21: Goodwin made one start and appeared in all 33 games, averaging 5.6 points and 3.5 rebounds. He was second on the team with a shooting percentage of 53.8 among players with at least one shot per game and was third on the team with 43 offensive rebounds. He scored 9 points and had 9 rebounds vs. BYU on Dec. 1. Scored in double figures for the first time with 10 points and 5 rebounds vs. Santa Clara on Dec. 29. He scored a season-best 12 points twice, first vs. Washington on Jan. 14 and then on March 6 at UCLA. He grabbed a season-high 10 rebounds and scored 8 points vs. Oregon State on Jan. 28. Made his only start of the season on Feb. 22 vs. Oregon and scored two points in 12 minutes of action. He scored 10 points on 4-for-4 shooting in USC’s second-round win over Kansas in the NCAA Tournament on March 22.
2019-20: Goodwin started all 35 games for Wofford, averaging 11.9 points, a team-high 6.2 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game. He scored in double figures 22 times and posted five double-doubles. He made 64.0 percent of his shots, fifth among all NCAA players. He scored 14 points in the opener vs. Erskine. Recorded his first double-double of the season with 11 points and 13 rebounds at Kennesaw State on Dec. 22. He scored 14 points and had 10 rebounds in the overtime win vs. UNC Greensboro. He scored 18 points and had nine rebounds at Samford the next game on Jan. 8. In the next game vs. Samford on Feb. 1 he scored 16 points and had 10 rebounds. He scored 25 points on 11 of 12 shooting at The Citadel on Jan. 29. He scored a career-best 27 points at VMI on Feb. 5. His next double-double was on Feb. 12 vs. Mercer when he scored 17 points and 12 rebounds. He posted his last double-double of the season with 15 points and had 11 rebounds at Furman on Feb. 22. He scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the SoCon quarterfinal win over Chattanooga. He scored 18 points in the SoCon final against ETSU.
2018-19: Played in all 35 games off the bench for Wofford, averaging 4.3 points and 4.3 rebounds in 13.3 minutes per game. He registered 11 games with at least six rebounds. He scored in double figures four times and posted two double-doubles, scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds vs. Kentucky Christian and 10 points and 10 rebounds at Samford on March 2. He scored four points and had four rebounds in the SoCon Championship win over UNC Greensboro on March 11. He scored five points and had two rebounds in the NCAA Championship first-round win vs. Seton Hall on March 21.
2017-18: Redshirted at Wofford due to NCAA transfer rules.
2016-17: Appeared in all 35 games for the College of Charleston and started three, averaging 2.3 points and 2.9 rebounds in 9.8 minutes per game. He scored a season-high eight points three times, vs. USC Upstate on Nov. 27, at Western Carolina on Dec. 22 and at Elon on Dec.31. Grabbed a season-best 12 rebounds and added five points at Delaware on Jan. 2...also played a season-high 20 minutes.
HIGH SCHOOL: Goodwin graduated from Hammond High in 2016. As a senior he averaged 18.9 points, 12.4 rebounds and 1.3 blocks and was named the co-Midlands Playere of the Year. Hammond won the SCISA 3A state championship his junior season and he helped lead them to a 93-44 record in his four seasons there. Goodwin was named to the All-Region and All-State teams his sophomore, junior and senior seasons.
PERSONAL: Chevez was born on February 27, 1998 in Columbia, S.C. His parents are Charles Goodwin and the late Ronee Berry-Goodwin.
