Anthony Coleman was promoted to interim director of basketball operations on Jan. 14. He began this season, his first with USC, as player development coordinator. Coleman was a well-heralded local product who graduated from Centennial High in 2000. As a senior he averaged 16.0 points, 14.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 3.5 blocks per game and was selected All-Area by the Daily Breeze and Long Beach Press-Telegram as well as earning various other honors and won a scholar-athlete award. Prior to that, Coleman starred at West Torrance High for three seasons.
Coleman earned a scholarship to Xavier and midway through the 2001-02 season he emerged as a key contributor for the Musketeers as they won the Atlantic-10 Conference and advanced to the second round of the 2002 NCAA Tournament. He finished his collegiate career at Long Beach State. During his senior year (2004-05) Coleman averaged 12.3 points and 5.0 rebounds in 21.4 minutes a contest. Coleman scored a career-high 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds vs. Sacramento State. He posted 17 points vs. Pepperdine and tallied 15 points and a season-high nine rebounds at UCLA. Coleman blocked a career-high six shots at Hawaii.
At the culmination of his collegiate basketball career, he graduated with a degree in Business Administration/Marketing and the ability to showcase his basketball skills, as a path forward in his career. Anthony participated in several NBA Summer Leagues including with the Los Angeles Clippers in 2005 and Milwaukee in 2007 and earned formal workouts for San Antonio, Phoenix, the Clippers, and Milwaukee. Over the next six years, Coleman played professional basketball in the European League, Japanese Basketball League and the NBA Development League before embarking in a new and exciting direction to further utilize his basketball acumen and his continued love of the game.
