Desmon Farmer is in his fourth season with the program, first as an assistant coach. Â He was elevated to his current position on August 2, after serving the past two seasons as a Director of Scouting. Â He spent the 2020-21 season as a graduate assistant with the program. He brings with him a wealth of professional playing experience, youth coaching and skill development training.
Farmer had spent the previous nine years working with professional and elite youth athletes to advance their basketball skills which resulted in multiple championships and over 20 college scholarships. Farmer coached the winning team at the National Basketball Players Association Top 100 Camp. Has served as the Royal Basketball school and Young3 coach and skills trainer since 2018.Â
He was the founder and coach of the AAU Vegas Thunder/Jam On It team with produced more than 20 NCAA scholarships for its athletes. Â He has also provided private and group training as well as clinics for youth athletes since 2011. Â He also is part owner and player for the Big3, a 3-on-3 professional league started by Ice Cube.
After playing professionally for 14 seasons, he returned to USC to finish his Bachelor of Arts degree in the Spring of 2020.  Farmer played for USC from 2001-04, scoring 1,606 points which still ranks fifth on the Trojans’ all-time scoring list.  His freshman season of 2001 the Trojans went 24-10 and reached the Elite Eight, beating Oklahoma State, Boston College and Kentucky, before falling to Duke in the Regional final.  He was named to the Pac-10 All-Freshman team in 2001, was All-Conference from 2002-04 and honorable mention All-America in 2004. He averaged 13.3 points per game during his career, including a 19.4 average as a senior which is the 13th-best single-season scoring average by a Trojan.
After leaving USC, Farmer was signed as a free agent by the NBA’s Indiana Pacers, but did not make the roster.  He played in a combined 11 NBA games with Seattle in 2006-07 (8) and San Antonio in 2008 (3) scoring a total of 26 points.  During his stay in the NBA he was coached by Gregg Popovich, Bob Hill and Rick Carlisle.
From 2004-15 he played for teams in the NBA D-League (now G-League) or for international professional teams.  In the D-League he played for Reno, Rio Grande Valley and Tulsa becoming one of the league’s all-time leading scorers.  Internationally he played in Israel, the Dominican Republic, Argentina, Colombia, Croatia, Russia, Puerto Rico, Spain, Poland, Belgium and Greece.  He helped lead his Prokom Trefl team to the 2005 EuroLeague Sweet 16 and his Zadar Croatia team to the 2009 EuroCup Elite Eight.  While playing for Candores in the Colombian LBN League, he set the single-game scoring record with 50 points.
Farmer is originally from Flint, Mich. He graduated from Flint Northwestern High in 2000 where he earned Michigan high school basketball All-State honors.
