Joey Cantens begins his first season at the Director of Scouting and Video Operations for the USC men's basketball program. He was hired by Andy Enfield on Sept. 15, 2014.
Prior to joining USC's staff, Cantens spent six months as an assistant coach on a professional team in the Dominican Republic and then served on the staff for the Dominican Republic national team which competed at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain and earned the No. 20 world ranking. He was also on staff for the Dominican Republic national team during the summers of 2011-13, first under Kentucky coach John Calipari, then under former Kentucky assistant and current South Florida head coach Orlando Antigua.
Cantens worked with Enfield as a graduate assistant at Florida State, when Enfield was an assistant coach for the Seiminoles' Leonard Hamilton. When Enfield became the head coach at Florida Gulf Coast he hired Cantens as the director of basketball operations. Cantens spent three seasons at FGCU which included the Eagles Sweet 16 run in 2013 and their first-ever Atlantic Sun regular season title in 2014, under the direction of head coach Joe Dooley.
Cantens graduated from Eckerd in 2009, and completed his master of science in sports management at Florida State in 2011. He was a three-year letterwinner at Eckerd.
