THIS SEASON: Mihály Flaskay, a 2007 senior and Hungary native, is USC's fastest sprint breaststroker ever and should challenge for an NCAA title in the 100y breast. He's also invaluable on Troy's medley relays and is talented in the sprint free. A career eight-time All-American, he is USC's record holder for the 100y breast (52.92) and is part of Troy's 200y, 400y and 400m medley relay records as well. Flaskay is also USC's third fastest ever in the 200y breast.
2006: Flaskay earned a pair of All-American honors as a junior as part of USC's sixth-place and school-record-setting 200y and 400y medley relays at the 2006 NCAA Championships. He was also 15th in the 100y breast (54.24) and 23rd in the 200y breast (2:00.44) and swam on USC's 200y free relay... At the 2006 Pac-10 Championships, Flaskay was third in both the 100y (53.50) and 200y breast (1:57.53) and 29th in the 50y free (21.10) ... At the 2006 U.S. Spring Nationals, Flaskay won the 100m breast title in 1:02.18 and swam on USC's 400m medley relay winner ... At the 2006 European Championships, he was 19th in the 100m breast (1:02.36), missing the cut for semifinals by 0.01 seconds.
2005: Flaskay was a three-time All-American as a 2005 redshirt sophomore and came within an eyelash of winning his first NCAA title. The European speedster was leading late in the 100y breast final at the 2005 NCAA Championships, but was edged out, finishing in 52.92 behind only Gary Marshall of Stanford (52.68). The time was still good enough to break his school record in the event. Flaskay also earned All-American honors by swimming the breaststroke legs in both medley relays that made finals appearances and competed on USC's 200y and 400y freestyles as well ... At the 2005 Pac-10 Championships, Flaskay was fourth in the 100y breast (53.61) and sixth in the 200y breast (1:59.67) ... At the 2005 World Championships, Flaskay was a semifinalist in the 50m breast, finishing ninth in 28.14. He was just 0.11 from qualifying for the final ... He was tabbed as USC's Most Inspirational Swimmer at the team banquet.
2004: Flaskay did not compete for the Trojans in 2004, instead taking the year off to train for the Olympics (though he did not compete there).
2003: Flaskay, as a 2003 freshman, was a three-time All-American and reached the finals of the 100y breast in his first NCAA Championships meet. Flaskay finished third in the 100y breast in a USC record 53.23 and swam the breast legs on the Trojans' seventh-place 200y medley relay (which set a school record in 1:27.54) and sixth-place 400y medley relay. He also raced on Troy's 15th-place 200y and 400y free relays ... He became only USC's second freshman since David Wharton in 1988 to win a Pac-10 title as a freshman, taking the 100y breast at the 2003 Pac-10s in 53.36. He also was 19th in the 200y breast (2:03.52) and 23rd in the 50y free (21.17) ... Flaskay won a bronze medal at the 2003 World Championships, swimming to third in the 50m breast (27.79) and was sixth in the 100m breast (1:01.69) ... He also swam in three events at the 2003 U.S. Spring Nationals.
HUNGARY: Flaskay, a five-time Hungary national champion, was a silver medalist in the 50m breast (27.51) at the 2002 European Championships and was sixth in the 100m breast (1:01.69) ... He was first in the 50m breast (28.56) at the 2000 European Junior Championships ... He won the 50m (28.35) and the 100m breast (1:01.75) at the 2002 Hungarian Nationals.
