THIS SEASON: Tanner Smith is in his final season of competition at USC... Went 11-5 in singles during the fall, winning the consolation title at the Battle in the Bay and reaching the ITA Southwest Regional Singles Championship singles final... Finished the fall with his highest career singles ranking at No. 34 in the nation.
2017-18: Smith went 11-7 overall in singles, going 2-1 in dual matches... Played at the No. 5 (1-0) and No. 6 (1-1) positions... In doubles, went 24-10 overall, going 12-8 in dual matches... Was 15-4 overall and 12-4 in dual matches with Daniel Cukierman playing at the No. 2 (3-0) and No. 3 (9-4) positions... Went 2-0 with Cukierman at the No. 3 position during the NCAA Team Tournament... Also went 3-0 with Cukierman at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, named to the All-Tournament Team at No. 3 doubles... Also went 0-2 overall with Thibault Forget, 3-1 with Tanner Smith, 0-3 with Mateusz Smolicki and 6-0 with Laurens Verboven... In the fall, Smith reached the ITA Southwest Regional singles Round of 16 and won the SoCal Intercollegiate and Jack Kramer Collegiate doubles titles with Verboven... Also reached the ITA Southwest Regional singles quarterfinal and the doubles semifinals with Jack Jaede... Earned Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention.
2016-17: Smith redshirted his third season at USC.
2015-16 SEASON: Smith went 6-4 overall in singles as a sophomore... Won the SDSU Fall Invitational Flight 2 singles title... In doubles, went 13-12 overall with a 4-6 mark in dual matches... Went 3-5 with Jack Jaede, going 2-3 in dual matches... Also paired with Rob Bellamy (2-2), Connor Farren (3-1), Jake DeVine (1-2) and David Laser (1-0).
2014-15 SEASON: Smith went 6-10 overall in singles, going 1-1 in dual matches at the No. 6 position... In doubles, went 5-6 overall with a 1-2 mark in dual matches... Was 2-2 overall with Rob Bellamy... Also went 1-1 with Max de Vroome, and paired with David Laser (0-1), Thibault Forget (1-1) and Jonny Wang (1-1)... In the fall, reached the singles semifinals at the Battle in the Bay... Also competed in the ITA Southwest Regionals, USTA Clay Court Invite and Jack Kramer Invite in the fall.
HIGH SCHOOL: Smith was named team MVP as a freshman, sophomore and senior at Servite High in Anaheim, Calif.… An elbow injury kept him out of competition his junior year… Earned the Servite Athletic Courage Award his senior year… An honor student all four years.
PERSONAL: Smith is the son of Peter and Tammie… Has two brothers, Riley and Colter… Says his most thrilling sports memory was his first college tournament in Fresno, in which he hit an ace to win the second set and force a third… Enjoys fishing in his free time… Chose to attend USC because it runs in his family’s blood… Says the toughest person he’s competed against is former Trojan standout Steve Johnson… His father, Peter, is the men’s tennis head coach at USC.. Brother Riley is also on the USC tennis team... Majoring in real estate development.
