After a 4-year (2013-16) playing career at USC, Josh Kirchner is serving as a student assistant coach in 2017 for the Trojans.
A part-time starter in 2013, 2014 and 2015, he had 262 kills (hitting .304), 105 blocks, 78 digs and 29 aces while appearing in 58 matches (starting 38) in his career. He hit a team-best .402 with 58 kills, 32 blocks, 14 digs and 11 aces as a senior middle blocker in 2016. While playing opposite hitter as a junior in 2015, he had 151 kills (hitting .252), 34 blocks, 51 digs and 13 aces . He appeared briefly in 1 match in 2014 as a backup middle blocker as a sophomore. He hit .367 with 52 kills and had 39 blocks, 12 digs and 5 aces as a first-year freshman middle blocker in 2013.
He prepped at Hamilton High in Sussex (Wisc.), which did not field a boys volleyball team (he was on the track team).
He was a member of the 2011 U.S. Youth National team that won a bronze medal at the Pan Am Cup in Mexico and finished 11th at the FIVB Youth U19 World Championships in Argentina. He helped lead his West Allis Lightning club team to a gold medal at the 2010 Junior Olympics 16 Open Gold Division and was on the U.S. Youth A2 Red team that won a gold medal at the 2010 USA Volleyball High Performance Championships International Youth Gold Division. He was on the 2009 U.S. Select A2 Silver team and participated in the 2008 Select A2 Camp.
Born Sept. 1, 1993, he is single. His sister, Stephanie, was a middle hitter at Wisconsin-Platteville (2010-13). He is completing work on a bachelor’s degree in economics at USC.
