Bio
THIS YEAR: Redshirt senior Ashley Pyka continues to improve in the hammer throw and made great strides this offseason.
2012: Set a PR in the hammer throw of 179-2 (54.61m) in finishing fourth at the Ben Brown Invitational on March 3. Was seventh in the hammer throw (167-1) and sixth in the discus throw (120-10) at the USC-UCLA Dual Meet on April 29.
2011: Had a season-best hamer throw of 172-6 (52.58m) to finish third at the Tiny Lister Invitational on April 22. Placed sixth in the hammer throw (170-4) and fourth in the discus (131-07) at the USC-UCLA Dual Meet. Placed 12th in the discus throw with a season-best mark of 136-10 (41.70m) and 14th in the hammer throw with a mark of 160-10 (49.02m) at the Pac-10 Championships in Tucson, Ariz.
2010: Redshirted due to a back injury.
2009: She had a solid first season of throwing for the Trojans, culminating with a ninth-place finish in the discus at the Pac-10 Championships with a throw of 145-4 (44.29m). Also threw the hammer at the Pac-10s with a best mark of 130-11 (39.90m). Set a PR in the discus with a throw of 152-1 (46.35m) at the UC San Diego Invitational on April 24. Threw the hammer 152-10 (46.59m) to place sixth at the Dual Meet on May 1. Placed fourth the next day in the Dual Meet discus competition with a final throw of 139-3 (42.44m).
High School: Pyka attended Canyon HS in Anaheim Hills, Calif. Her school won the Century League for the second-time ever her senior season. She won the 2008 CIF Southern Section discus title and went on to place sixth in the discus at the CIF-State Finals with a throw of 143-8 (43.79m). Had a career-best throw of 146-1 (44.53m) at the Adidas Golden West Invitational on June 7. That mark is tied for the 18th-farthest discus throw ever by an Orange Country high school girl. She was named to the All-Orange County team in the discus. Was named the Canyon HS Athlete of the Year in 2008.
Personal: Ashley was born on July 31, 1990 in in Long Beach, Calif...Likes to workout in her spare time...She is a Psychology major at USC with a minor in Kinesiology and Law.
