Gussie Johns is a senior goalie for the Women of Troy… she is the first-ever USC women’s lacrosse player to be named to the U.S. Women’s National Team… won gold medals at the 2017 FIL World Cup in Guildford, England, and at the 2017 World Games in Wroclaw, Poland, where she went wire-to-wire between the pipes for Team USA.
2017
As a junior, Johns was an IWLCA All-West/Midwest Region Second Team choice… MPSF All-Conference First Team… MPSF All-Tournament Team… Tewaaraton Award Watch List selection… two-time MPSF Defensive Player of the Week (Feb. 20, April 17)… ILWomen.com Preseason All-American… MPSF All-Academic Team… started all 22 games for the Women of Troy… set a new USC single-season record with 98 ground balls… finished the year with 25 caused turnovers… played 1,153 minutes in goal and made 142 saves with 164 goals against… recorded a 8.53 goals-against average to lead the MPSF and had a .464 save percentage to rank second in the league.
2016
As a sophomore, Johns was named to the IWLCA All-West/Midwest Region First Team… MPSF All-Conference First Team selection… chosen for MPSF All-Academic honors… named MPSF Defensive Player of the Week twice (Apr. 4, Apr. 18)… NCAA statistical champion for goals-against average (6.04 gaa)… helped lead the NCAA’s top defense (5.81 goals-against average)… ranked third in the MPSF in save percentage (.469)… tied for first in the league with 49 ground balls and ranked second in ground balls per game (2.33 gbpg)… started 20 of the Trojans’ 21 games and earned 19 wins during USC’s record-setting 20-game winning streak… logged a total of 1,123 minutes and 17 seconds in goal… picked up a career-high six ground balls in a win at Colorado (Apr. 8).
2015
As a freshman, Johns earned an MPSF All-Conference Second Team selection… named MPSF Rookie of the Week (Mar. 16)… InsideLacrosse.com Rookie of the Week (May 6)… led the MPSF in goals-against average (8.68 gaa) and ranked fourth in save percentage (.384), fifth in ground balls (2.35 gbpg), and sixth for saves per game (5.05 spg)… started all 20 games in goal and played a total of 1,119 minutes and 20 seconds… set a new USC record for wins by a goalie in a single season with a 14-6 final record… saved a season and career-high 14 shots against Stanford (Apr. 19)… produced back-to-back double-digit saves contests in the MPSF tournament (10 vs. Denver, May 1; 10 vs. Stanford, May 3)… surrendered season-low three goals in three games (vs. Fresno State, Feb. 24; vs. Saint Mary’s College, Mar. 20; vs. Denver, Apr. 12)… collected season-high five ground balls in three games (vs. Northwestern, Feb. 7; at Dartmouth, Mar. 28; at Boston College, Mar. 30).
INTERNATIONAL
Johns became the first USC lacrosse player to be chosen to the U.S. Women’s Senior National Team and helped Team USA win gold medals at the 2017 FIL World Cup in Guildford, England, and at the 2017 World Games in Wroclaw, Poland, where she played the entire time in goal.

Johns was a four-year lacrosse letterwinner at St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes School in Alexandria, Va., under head coach Kathy Jenkins… the No. 6-ranked prospect by Inside Lacrosse… named to the 2014 Under Armour All-America Team… three-time Under Armour Underclass Lacrosse Classic selection… finished her high school career with just eight losses in goal… led her school to Virginia state, Independent School League, and ISL tournament titles in 2011-14… completed her career with 439 saves, 236 ground balls, 57 caused turnovers, and 45 interceptions while maintaining save percentages of 60, 50, 52, and 59, in her four seasons… as a senior, led her team to a 29-2 mark with 169 saves and named VISAA (Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association) Player of the Year, All-Independent School League, first-team All-State, and D.C. All-Metro Player of the Year… as a junior, received All-ISL honors, first-team All-State, first-team D.C. All-Metro… as a sophomore, earned first-team D.C. All-Metro honors… received second-team D.C.
