THIS SEASON: A 2007 junior, Greg Barone is a solid sprint breaststroker for the Trojans who has improved each year and has a chance to make his first NCAAs.
2006: Improved as a sophomore, Barone competed in three events at the 2006 Pac-10 Championships. He was 15th in the 200y breast (2:04.05), 16th in the 100y breast (57.38) and 38th in the 50y free (23.81) ... He was tabbed a 2006 Pac-10 All-Academic second teamer with a 3.46 GPA in communications.
2005: Barone saw occasional action as a 2005 freshman, posting an exhibition swim at the Pac-10 Championships and competing at the Texas Invitational.
HIGH SCHOOL: Earned all-state honors as a senior at Fairfield Prep in Stamford, Conn. ... Was also All-Area as a senior and was on the All-Academic team each year in school.
PERSONAL: He was born on March 12, 1986 ... A communications major, he was Summa Cum Laude each year in school and was a member of the National Honor Society as a junior and senior ... Older brother Jamie swam at Loyola College in Maryland and was a 2004 Olympic Trials semifinalist in the 100m breast ... Younger brother Tom is a freshman on the USC team.
