LOS ANGELES -- Eli Fairfield had 14 kills and 6 aces to lead the No. 3-ranked USC men's volleyball team to a 15-3, 15-6, 15-0 sweep over UC San Diego in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match on Friday (April 7) at the USC North Gym.
USC upped its record to 19-4 overall and 14-3 in the MPSF, while UC San Diego--ranked No. 1 in the NCAA Division III poll--dropped to 6-17 and 0-17.
Fairfield hit .619, while teammate Brook Billings hit .389 with 11 kills and a match-high 5 digs. Mark Dusharme had a match-best 5 blocks for the Trojans, who outhit (.541 to .156) and outblocked (9.0 to 2.0) the Tritons while posting 12 aces to UCSD's 0.
Donald Chen led UCSD with a match-leading 15 kills.
USC, with an MPSF tournament berth already secure, finishes its regular season next week with a match at No. 9 Loyola Marymount on Wednesday (April 12) and then hosting No. 2 Long Beach State on Saturday (April 15) at 7 p.m. in the North Gym in a match that could decide the MPSF Pacific Division title.
