
No. 5 USC Qualifies Three Boats For Semifinals

GOLD RIVER, Calif. - USC's No. 5 women's rowing team had a successful start to the 2011 NCAA Rowing Championships Friday (May 27) by automatically qualifying for the semifinals in the First Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight and Varsity Four at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center.
The Women of Troy finished second in all three of their respective heats, earning berths in Saturday's semifinals. This is the first time Troy has qualified all three boats without having to compete in the afternoon repechage.
USC's First Varsity Eight lineup, competing in the third heat of the morning, of cox Dionne Licudine, Ivana Filipovic, Maria Wilgotsson, Lenka Vrecnikova, Magda Janicka, Anna Wierzbowska, Jelena Zelenovic, Iskra Angelova, and Helen Tinkus finished second in 6:28.86. Stanford won the heat in 6:23.67 while Washington State was third (6:33.68), Wisconsin was fourth (6:34.81), Ohio State was fifth (6:36:42) and Harvard was sixth (6:45:22).
USC's Second Varsity Eight lineup, competing in the second heat, of cox Tanya Ouyang, Vineta Moca, Jelena Miladinovic, Kajsa Olsson, Liene Stuberovska, Marlena Adamska, Anna Janicka, Kinga Mikolajczyk, Ewa Tymoszewska finished second in the closest race of the day in 6:40.62. Stanford won the heat in 6:32.09. Troy was able to hold off Washington (6:40.65) and Yale (6:40.93) in a tight finish at the line. Dartmouth was fifth at 6:49.07.
USC's Varsity Four of cox Caroline Trawick, Gaby Zarate Demacedo, Caroline Sederowsky, Rachel Moll, Melanie Grindle rounded out a day of second place finishes at 7:26.68. Virginia won the heat in 7:23.68, Stanford was third (7:27.12), Brown was fourth (7:35.72), Michigan was fifth (7:38.79), and Dartmouth was sixth (7:58.49).
