SINGLES
PALOS VERDES, CALIF. — USC sophomore Thibault Forget had a powerful performance at the Jack Kramer Intercollegiate Tournament with runs to the singles and doubles finals. Forget would fall in three set to the draw's top-seeded singles player, while teaming up with freshman Jake DeVine for a push to the doubles title match. There, the two young Trojans put up a tough fight before falling 8-5 in the final.
Four Trojans made the journey to Palos Verdes to finish out fall tennis action at the Jack Kramer Intercollegiate Tournament. In addition to Forget's ferocious run — which saw the sophomore post five consecutive wins to reach the title match — USC had all four Trojans win their first matches. Jake DeVine would take a loss to top seed in the Round of 16, while fellow freshman Jack Jaede fell to the No. 7 seed in that same round. Forget and junior Connor Farren would stay in stride through to the semifinals, where the two Trojans had to square off to decide who would move into the final. In that all-Trojan semifinal, Forget scored a 6-3, 6-3 win over his veteran teammate to punch a ticket to the title match. There, Forget and top-seeded Naoki Takeda traded the first sets before the Arizona player managed to get up a break in the third and win it 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
In doubles action, USC had DeVine and Forget paired up, with Rob Bellamy and Jack Jaede teamed up at the other side of the draw. A strong opening win by Bellamy and Jaede would come to a close after Jaede had to pull out of singles play with an injury to put an end to doubles action as well. Meanwhile, DeVine and Forget would tack up three very tight wins to get into the final. DeVine/Forget posted an 8-7 win in the Round of 16, an 8-6 decision in the quarterfinals and then topped the top seeds 8-7 in the semifinals. That put the Trojans up against SMU's Johnson/Johnson in the final, and the Mustangs were able to grab a crucial break to take the title with an 8-5 final.
