The first set was tied at 13-13 before Long Beach State ran off 5 consecutive points and USC couldn't recover as the 49ers hit .400 in the set. It was 17-17 in the second set before LBSU scored back-to-back points and steadily pulled away. Long Beach State went on a 3-0 run early in the third set to forge a 7-4 lead and the 49ers continued to build on the lead the rest of the way.
The match was played in the upstairs Pavilion at the Galen Center because of a conflict with a Women of Troy basketball game scheduled at the same time in the Galen Center.
USC, in the midst of playing 4 MPSF home matches in a 7-day span, next welcomes No. 4 Hawaii on Monday (Feb. 15) and Tuesday (Feb. 16), both at 7 p.m. in the Galen Center.
