USC Men's Volleyball Sweeps Holy Names

Alex Slaught had 13 kills while hitting .476 to lead the USC men's volleyball team to a 25-19, 25-22, 25-15 sweep over non-conference foe Holy Names on Friday (March 18) at USC's Galen Center.
USC improved to 6-14 overall, while Holy Names dropped to 1-17. The victory gave the Trojans their first back-to-back victories of 2016, coming on the heels of Wednesday's (March 16) sweep over another non-conference NCAA Division II opponent, Concordia.
Josh Kirchner added 7 kills while hitting .875 and he served 3 aces for USC, Connor Inlow and Jon Rivera each had 6 kills (Inlow hit .556) and Vinnie Rios had 5 digs. Setter Michael Mullahey came off the bench to play the entire third set, seeing his first action of 2016 for the Trojans after being sidelined all season with a knee injury.
Trent Compton led Holy Names with 7 kills, while Conan True and Trevor Robison each had 7 digs.
USC hit .329 in the match to the Hawks' .067 and Troy had 7 aces. Holy Names outblocked the Trojans, 6.0 to 1.0.
USC opened a quick 5-2 margin in the first set and maintained a lead the rest of the way while hitting .429 and serving 3 aces. The Trojans went on a 6-0 run in the second set to forge a 20-15 lead and the Hawks couldn't catch up. USC scored the first 4 points of the final set and continued to pull away while hitting .364.
USC now returns to Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play with a pair of road contests. Troy first visits No. 5 Stanford on March 24 in a match that will be shown live on Pac-12 Los Angeles and Pac-12 Bay Area, then the Trojans travel to No. 9 Pepperdine on March 26.
