Women of Troy Have Strong Showing at Roberta Alison Fall Classic

Junior Rianna Valdes and freshman Alexa Corcoleotes each had a perfect weekend in their singles matches as they went undefeated to win their respective draws at the 30th Roberta Alison Fall Classic at Alabama Tennis Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala. over the weekend. Valdes continued her impressive weekend as she also won her doubles bracket with partner Angela Kulikov. In total, the USC women's tennis team won 14 singles matches and 5 doubles matches over the two days of the tournament (Oct 27-28).
In the first round of singles, the Trojans won six of seven singles matches to start their respective brackets out on a positive note. Junior Rianna Valdes, sophomores Sydney Van Alphen and Constance Branstine and freshman Alexa Corcoleotes all successfully outlasted their various opponents.
In the third round, Valdes defeated Hanna Sohn of Memphis 6-2, 6-3 and Corcoleotes topped USA's Yu Fujioka 6-4, 6-2 to win their brackets. In addition, senior Madison Westby and sophomore Becca Weissmann each won their respective third round singles matches.
In the doubles portion of the competition, all three Trojan pairs won their first round matches. Kulikov/Valdes took down Jandric/Vrbenska of Ole Miss 6-4 in the second round and Clemson's Ledic/Navarro 6-4 in the third round to win the bracket.

Next weekend for the Trojans, senior Gabby Smith will head to Indian Wells, Calif. to compete in the ITA National Championships (Nov. 1-4), and Branstine, Corcoleotes and Valdes will take their talents to the Jack Kramer Invitational in Rolling Hills, Calif. (Nov. 2-5).
