Abdulghany, Ree, Corpuz all post 3&2 wins.
Junior Robynn Ree, sophomore Allisen Corpuz and freshman Alyaa Abdulghany all posted 3&2 wins to lead the No. 14 USC women's golf team to a victory over Northwestern in the East Lake Cup match play semifinals at the East Lake G.C. in Atlanta on Tuesday.
Â
The victory gives the Trojans a measure of satisfaction after the Wildcats knocked out USC in the 2017 NCAA Championships semifinals in extra holes.
Â
"I'm proud of them all," USC Coach Andrea Gaston said. "Last year we played a lot of match play but in the end I felt it didn't help us as much, so I entered us in more stroke play this year.
Â
"But being invited to East Lake was spectacular for us and is a great experience. They all know it's a different game. You have to watch what your opponent is doing but still play the golf course. I also told them, let's just have fun out there. It's beautiful."
Â
USC will face Stanford in the title match after the Cardinal downed defending NCAA champion Arizona State. Play will start at approximately 10am PT with coverage on Golf Channel starting at noon.
Â
Abdulghany secured USC's first point with her win over Northwestern's Sarah Cho. All square after six holes, she built a three-hole lead at the turn, dropped to 1up after 11 but got it right back and secured Troy's first point with a bogey on 16.
Â
Ree was square through five holes before winning six and she never trailed again. She went up three holes over Stephanie Lau at 14 and notched USC's second point with her par on 16.
Â
Corpuz never trailed in her match with Brooke Riley. She seesawed between 1up and 2up through the back 9 until clinching her match with a birdie on 16.
Â
Sophomore Divya Manthena was leading in her match, 2up, over Janet Mao when play was called while sophomore Muni He, despite being 3-under, was trailing in her match to Hannah Kim by three holes.
